Entrepreneur Coaching in Jakarta During Ramadan - 7 Key Learnings
Module 1-5 September 30 & October 1, 2006
1) Patience - Slow Down and Breath
Airport Arrival - arriving in Jakarta, some unaware visitors go immediately to the immigration line, wait 20 to 30 minutes to be told that they need to buy an visa from the visa issuing booth which is very close to the aircraft departure area. Some get frustrated, angry and curse. The folks at Jakarta airport get a chuckle of the frustration so take note, get your visa - 10$US for one week, 25$ for a month. Key learning - slow down, enjoy the process, breath, and remember the key phrase Welcome to Jakarta!
2) Speak Clearly and Slowly
Cultural Diversity - the main language in Indonesia in Bahasa with English, Dutch, Japanese, and Chinese. With over 365 ethnic and tribal groups and a population of over 234.89 million, Jakarta is the largest city with more than 9 million, over two times the population of New Zealand and Singapore. When you communicate with people in Jakarta, it is best to consciously and respectfully pronounciate and enunciate your words clearly and succinctly.
This past weekend some of the awesome people in the room included Karl the hotelier from Switzerland, Monika from Holland, the India connection Rakesh, Bedi, Siddhi, Sony, Abha, from Bangalore, Madras, Mumbai, Deli, and Chennai, Mike from the UK, Thelma from the Philippines, and our wonderful Indonesia contingent from Jakarta, Java, Bali and Bandung.
