Social Entrepreneurship & Social Intelligence

SOCIAL Entrepreneurship & Social Intelligence
In 2005, business writer Karl Albrecht http://karlalbrecht.com/
proposed a five-part model of social intelligence in his book Social Intelligence: the New Science of Success,
“S.P.A.C.E.” –
Situational Awareness,
Presence,
Authenticity,
Clarity, and
Empathy.
What does this mean to entrepreneurs and specifically to socially responsible leaders in the new millennium?
SITUATIONAL AWARENESS
According to Mike Handcock, author, speaker and founder of the ROCK YOUR LIFE motivational programs , http://www.mdh.co.nz
Mike suggests that situational awareness is a key component to building rapport and is an effective way to utilize and heighten your sensory acuity. By using your senses – seeing, hearing, touching, and even tasting and smelling, an entrepreneur is more equipped to analyze a situation quickly, effectively and accurately.
By tapping into situational awareness, entrepreneurs can see things with new eyes, seize opportunities and move into action immediately. Situational awareness is about being in the moment and being aware of the people, surroundings, and hierarchy in the specific environment, and that is particularly important especially in doing business in Asia Pacific.
PRESENCE
For social intelligence, the concept of presence is to “live in the moment”.
Living in the past with its burdens, problems or package or in the future will its fears, doubts, and uncertainties disconnects you from living in the moment and may not serve you in tapping into the mysteries and infinite possibilities of the present.

One of my favorite techniques to be present is to prior to entering a room or meeting or function, take three deep cleansing breaths - breath in through the nose and out through the mouth, deeply three times. This breathing allows me to cleanse the stresses of the day. It also centers me on my breathing which increases oxygen intake and happens to increase my self confidence and self esteem. When combined with some smiling, it allows me to align the subconscious and conscious minds which often leads to increased presence with the people and awareness of the environment.
AUTHENTICITY
Authenticity is allowing your true or genuine self to come to the surface. By removing the “masks” that people wear in society, it allows the genuine self to be exposed and can often lead to vulnerability which in turn can lead to amazing attraction.
A wonderful example of authenticity comes from the traditional Japanese sport of SUMO. When a rekishi or sumo wrestler retires from competitive sumo, the retirement ceremony DANPATSUSHI occurs with the rekishi sitting in the middle of the ring or Dohryo while fifteen or so of his mentors, coaches, teachers, associates and even rivals will enter the dohryo and cut a piece of his top knot.
With each cut, the retiring rekishi allows his brave warrior mask come down and his authentic human face is exposed. By the end of the ceremony these national treasures are often reduced to tears and in doing so have allowed their authentic self to be fully exposed.  With the audience, their status, level of respect, and admiration is at a peak level. This pure and ego-less experience demonstrates an example wherein the common folk can connect with the famed rekishi’s genuineness, humanity, and vulnerability and in doing so, their level of attraction is at a peak.
CLARITY
In the field of social intelligence clarity is power. Be clear, focused and direct in what you want. Ask often, ask clearly, and ask with passion.
During the Entrepreneur Business School last year in Bali (www.resultsfoundation.com), I was teamed up with Mike Southern, entrepreneur, business speaker, and co-author of the best selling book the Beermat Entrepreneur - http://www.beermat.biz – it was great working with Mike and during our sessions, we coached entrepreneurs on clarity and focus. Our key questions to assist entrepreneurs to enhance their social intelligence and to get them to articulate their business with clarity and power were
- What is your product?
- What problem are you solving?
- Who can we introduce you to?
By enhancing your clarity, you set a clear and concise message that allows others and the universe to conspire to make your manifestations a reality.
EMPATHY
Empathy is commonly defined as one’s ability to recognize, perceive and directly feel the emotion of another.
Entrepreneurs, especially social aware entrepreneurs consider the situation of the people that they are facing. They know their audience, get to know their interest, and will quickly ask themselves, “If I were in their situation, how would I react to this?
Leading entrepreneurs identify with people and can effectively trade minds with individuals or the masses. It is the art of communication that allows them to connect at the heart, motivate with the mind, and inspire with the vision, while maintaining full congruency with their own values, beliefs, and vision.
In Singapore, Founding Father and socially aware innovator Lee Kwan Yew’s life experiences can be highlighted as utilizing many of the principles espoused by the SPACE approach to social intelligence. From empathizing, connecting, and leading a disenfranchised people when he returned from Malaysia with a decision to set out and design the Island Republic of Singapore, to the clarity and determination to adapt strict, firm, and unwavering rules, regulations and laws on corporal and capital punishment for a nation, to the authentic approach in creating open and direct communication, all in the while of maintaining a dynamic balance and situational awareness and being present throughout his career, especially as he embraced the personal, professional, and spiritual undercurrents and challenges in his own life long journey.

Have a brilliant week ahead,

Dave Rogers

Dine and Deal with Dave UK

Dine and Deal With Dave UK
It was a pleasure and thrill to be in Manchester and share some tips and deal making coaching with the participants in the Dine and Deal with Dave program. This initiative was spearheaded and launched in Christchurch earlier this year along with my dear friend Matthew Faid and supported by super supporter Alika Rai.

The concept is simple, you sign up for a special “Dine and Deal with Dave” lunch through an investment of a nominal amount, say $100, pay for your own lunch and then get ready for an “awesome coaching experience” focusing on your deals.

The proceeds from “Dine and Deal with Dave” www.dineanddealwithdave.com goes to an organization that feeds children in India. By getting the food, these children also get educated. So in fact, by having a lunch somewhere around the world with Dave, a child in India gets fed and educated for up to a year.

This amazing charity, Mid Day Meal, was selected by Maya Shahani in India and supported as part of the Buy 1 Give 1 global initiative.

It is my humble goal that by August 2008, the DNDWD program will have contributed funds to nurture 150 kids in India, just by dining!

Thank you to the awesome participants in Manchester:

Dawn – dynamic, action focused, willing to make things happen and a natural deal maker. For the next six months, will be focusing on events in Manchester as well as ways to doing deals in the areas of sponsorship, service enhancers, and the mastery of magnification. A special thanks to Dawn for organizing the lunch and for the awesome support that she personally gave me during my time in the UK!
Anne – Drink Ethical Coffee, Eat Ethical Foods and make a difference in Tanzania. Time for Anne to magnify her activities through effective networks, key people, allowing people to use her products – Best of Luck to John with the presentation and JP – you rock!

Michelle – building the team in Manchester – created great attraction with the launch of the momentum concept in Manchester and looking to attract strategic alliances to make Manchester the “Hub for Professional Speaking” in the UK.

Justin – the calming force of Justin added a wonderful dimension to the Dine and Deal session. Joyful, unwavering commitment, sincere, trustworthy, intuitive, nice (perhaps sometimes too darn nice?), if you have requirements for Shopping Cart Solutions for your website or are in the web design space, get in contact with Justin!

Debra – life coaching, networking coaching, communications training, Debra will get you focused, clear, and ready for action! And she will brighten your day, improve communications in your office place and bring innovation and creativity to the workplace. Contact Debra to find out how your firm can get involved in Global Hugs, an international movement to inspire and share HUGS globally.

Mel – marvelous matcher, entertaining& experienced, likeable listener – licensed professional sporting agent in Manchester – an experienced deal maker who is building a team to put 11 Sports on the international scene.

Have a brilliant month ahead and Happy Deal Making!
Cheers,

Dave

Kia Ora from the Virgin Train in the UK

KIA ORA from the Virgin Train from London to Manchester

KIND THANKS

We had a grand weekend in London with 90+ life members for the XL Entrepreneur Life Shift program. Many thanks to super supporters Mike and Nick and the Triumphant team for ensuring the weekend proceeded in a “smooth and simple” manner.

INSPIRING SHARING

Dr Phyllis shared some of her expertise along with her initiative to develop and train the next generation of micro-financing professionals.

Thalbir and Shira with their passion, compassion and enthusiasm to magnify, lead, and expand humanitarian programs in India.

The XL Ball received wonderful support from Haddie, Harun, Michelle, the ballroom dancing of Mark, and the very inspiring and compelling positioning by legal eagle Caroline. With the big heart, inspiring giving, and fun filled musical endeavors of Mike Fabio along with the noteworthy cause of raising 50,000 pounds for the Hunger Project. If you have not purchased your tickets, pick them up at www.extraordinaryballs.com

Can three stars successful work together? Judging by the synergy of persuasive skills of Harun, the intentionality of well intentioned Naomi, and the internet marketing flair of the “arse hole” marketer Mr F U , Colin Fu, the three stars created some tremendous attraction this weekend for Naomi’s weekend in January as well as raising awareness for the recent Bangladeshi floods by rallying donations for the construction of two houses and several water pumps - Awesome!

AWARENESS

Global Leader facilitator and best selling author Robert from Amsterdam had a number of thought provoking questions including, “Dave, what are the three biggest learnings that you have had to date?”

WOW – what a questions, unfortunately time did run out during the session so i am pleased to answer the question here!

My three top learnings are
#3) Power of Intention - What you focus on will materialize, usually along with the opposite so that you can gain an amazing perspective, awareness, and experience of the duality dance.

#2) The Magic of Now - Let each experience be a discovery, allow the emotions to be triggered and allow yourself the space to experience life to the fullest!  Live in the moment – live with gratitude and be aware that all experiences are triggers to allow us to experience the yin-yang of life.

1) Love all, serve all – the motto of Hard Rock Café and some of the smooth and simple teachings from India.
OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS

Great opportunity knocks from London in the areas of health and wellness, coaching and leadership through step up, groovy crystal studded ear phones, inspiring television, antique furnishings from China, and expansionary opportunities for XL in Europe and Latin America - get ready for XL Brazil!
RESPECT AND ADMIRATION

Heartfelt thanks to all the life members who contributed to a magical weekend in London!

Love and light,
Dave
